Company News

Congratulations to Donna Hill who celebrates 10 years at Data Analysis Australia.  The occasion was celebrated over morning tea with Donna’s favourite food – Chocolate Cake.

Donna, who is familiar to many of our clients, has seen the company grow substantially over the last 10 years. Donna is a popular and valued member of Data Analysis Australia who provides strong leadership and a solid knowledge base in her role as a Senior Consultant Statistician.

Our latest newsletter was posted in March. If you don’t already receive a copy of our newsletter and would like a copy to be sent to you, please contact Carole or Angela at Data Analysis Australia, who will be happy to add your details to our mailing list.

We would like to introduce our two new recruits, Emma Smith and Hana Sakai, who joined Data Analysis Australia in early December, 2008.  Emma graduated from Curtin University with Honours in Applied Mathematics, specialising in Optimisation Techniques.  She is currently completing a PhD in Applied Mathematics.  Emma has experience in modelling and analysis in a biological area, with a particular interest in ruminant livestock.  Hana has recently moved to Perth from London where she completed her degree in Business Decision Analysis, which included a dissertation on “An Analysis of Data from Multiple Sclerosis Patients”.  Hana has previous consultancy experience working as an Operational Research Analyst in academia and in the British Government.

Data Analysis Australia strongly supports the promotion of statistics to undergraduates and recent graduates by offering work experience placements and the opportunity to be involved in real world projects.  Our first students for 2009 were Ferina Reviyanti from Curtin University and Tulsi Panchani from Edith Cowan University who both gained valuable insight into the variety of work offered in a commercial statistical company.

Data Analysis Australia is committed to the ongoing development of its staff and to this goal the staff have recently participated in an intensive in-house training program.  The topics included Linear and Generalised Linear Models, Water Modelling, Graphics in R, Surveys, Fixed and Random Effects Models, Censored Data and Survival Analysis, Residuals, Model Diagnostics and Outliers.

We would also like to congratulate Miriam Maclean who has been accepted into a postgraduate Master of Science (Industrial and Organisational Psychology) course at UWA. The course will provide knowledge in applying psychological principles within business settings (particularly in relation to human resourcing issues such as selection, retention and organisational development) as well as extending her statistical modelling skills.
